At Hitachi, Global Mobility’s mission is to become the company’s strategic business partner, driving sustainable business growth and talent development. To be able to support the continued success of the Hitachi Group companies, it needs to evolve and innovate. In an attempt to digitalize, globalize and simplify, it is looking to harmonize its Long-Term Assignment policy across the various group companies (Energy, Rail, etc.).
After a first session earlier this year, Hitachi Energy is now further in the process and has identified a preferred direction in terms of policy changes for its LTAs. Key items include the introduction of a net salary guarantee for assignees, in combination with a split payroll option. Everyone agrees these are good changes to make, but internal challenges are being encountered on the operational front. How do you facilitate this when your global payroll systems are not set up this way? Considering the relatively small population size compared to the total organization, is it worth outsourcing the expatriate payroll entirely? Have you had similar conversations with HR Operations and how did you overcome them?
